This lecture is concerned with Asynchronous Systems and help for Projects #4 and #5.
  1. The Syllabus describes topics to be covered, reading material for you to digest before coming to class, and due dates for the assigned projects.
  2. Midterm Makeup Exam - due December 14th, 2007
This is a take home make up examination. You are required to do two things:
    1. Review your exam solution, and, for each question, describe what was wrong with your answer, if anything. Please do not feedback my solutions.
    2. Complete the Makeup Examination, linked above.
If you complete these two tasks nearly flawlessly, your midterm grade will be raised to an 85, but no higher. You may ask any question you wish about the examination. The TA and I will give clear answers about how to tackle the problem in question.
  3. Helpers for Project #4

Best Project 2's - Phil Pratt and Mohammad Khajah
These two projects were easy to use and provided very good routing.

    ADAM-Wrapper-Prototype, updated with Comm component
All message handlers, e.g., virtually all parts, inherit from AWrapper, except for UIs that already inherit implementation from Form. UIs need to create a message handler that does inherit from AWrapper.

Socket Message Framing using Threads and Queues (Lecture #5)
Communication component receivers need to do this.

    Message-Passing Web Service
Communicate using a blocking queue hosted by a Web Service.

Configuring virtual directory for a web service - Vista
Configuring virtual directory for a web service - Vista

    Remoting-based Message-Passing Systems Presentation
Illustrates how to set up message-passing communication using .Net remoting.

    Peer-to-Peer Prototype
Illustrates use of bilateral remoting with SingleCall activation to establish Peer-To-Peer communication.

    Base64Encoding (Lecture #5)
Any component that wants to send, possibly binary, files needs to do this.

    .Net Process Creation (Lecture #6)
Shows how to wrap a legacy EXE.

DLL Loading - implicit and explicit (Lecture #7)
How the Executives attach to the parts they manage.

    concurrent file access
Uses exceptions thrown when files can't be opened to try later.

    Safe Thread Synchronization, Jeffrey Richter
  4. Project #5
  5. Helpers for Project #5

Riddhiman Ghosh - Best Final Reports
Saket Satta - Best Final Reports

    Project Center Use Cases
