In this lecture we discuss the IDataObject and ConnectionPoints interfaces and some custom designs that accomplish similar purposes.
  1. Syllabus
Describes topics to be covered, reading material for you to digest before coming to class, and due dates for the assigned projects.
  2. Project #2, Final Projects
  3. Resource Papers by McKinney: COM Strings, Variants, Safe arrays
  4. Registry Structure:
  5. Automation and IDispatch
    Automation Presentation
This presentation discusses the standard COM IDispatch interface.
Raw C++ Automation Project using IDispatch
Here, an automation server is build with ATL and its client is built in C++ without using MFC or ATL. This too is somewhat complicated.

    Automation Servers - Steve Zimmerman

  6. Debugging Out-of-Proc Components
  7. Distributed COM:
  8. COM's Data and Eventing Models
Compound Files, Structured Storage, and Monikers

    Structured Storage Demo

Two way communiation between two Out-of-Proc components
This project uses custom interfaces on both client and server to establish duplex communication. It is a good model to use for Project #2.

Uniform Data Transfer and Connectable Objects
Introduction to UDT - Data Model and CPs - Eventing Model.

  9. ActiveX Controls;
